Australia's Jack Miller has finished eight in the Malaysian MotoGP at Sepang behind winner Andrea Dovizioso. The Italian conquered the slippery conditions to outlast compatriot Valentino Rossi and claim his first MotoGP victory in more than seven years. The start was delayed by by 20 minutes due to a heavy shower that saw many of the leading contenders fall out of contention and forced the race to be cut a lap short. Jorge Lorenzo emerged from some heavy tussling to take the early lead but fell back just as quickly. Rossi and another fellow Italian Andrea Iannone battled each other as Dovizioso waited for his time to attack in third.  Marc Marquez was one of a number of riders who lost touch with the leaders before the newly-crowned world champion crashed out of the race completely on lap 12. Iannone also hit the deck a lap later, leaving Rossi and Dovizioso with a sizable lead on Lorenzo. The critical moment came early on lap 15 when Rossi took a wide berth, opening the door for Dovizioso to accelerate to a lead he never gave up. Dovizioso scorched away to beat Rossi to the line by more than three seconds to secure his first win since Donington Park 2009 and his maiden triumph with Ducati. Dovozioso is also the ninth winner in 17 MotoGP races this year and the result secures seven-time MotoGP champ Rossi the runner-up position in the 2016 championship.
