Jessica Eye-Katlyn Chookagian fight added to UFC 231 card

MMA

After a tumultuous few weeks, the dust is starting to settle in the UFC's women's flyweight division.

A fight between Jessica Eye and Katlyn Chookagian has been added to UFC 231 on Dec. 8 in Toronto, sources told ESPN on Friday.

Eye was originally scheduled to fight Sijara Eubanks at UFC 232 on Dec. 29. However, that was scrapped when Eubanks was briefly moved to UFC 230 to take on Valentina Shevchenko in a vacant title fight after the UFC decided to cancel Shevchenko's bout against Joanna Jedrzejczyk, which was originally scheduled for Toronto.

The promotion then decided to cancel the Shevchenko-Eubanks fight, move the Shevchenko-Jedrzejczyk matchup back to UFC 231 and then booked Eubanks vs. Roxanne Modafferi.

Enter Chookagian (11-1), who has won her past three fights.

Eye (13-6, 1 NC) is 2-0 since moving down to 125 pounds.

All this happened after Nicco Montano was stripped of the title one day before UFC 228 for failing to make weight before her scheduled title fight against Shevchenko.

The Chookagian-Eye fight is expected to serve as a backup fight should Shevchenko or Jedrzejczyk end up withdrawing at the last minute.

The event, which will take place at ScotiaBank Centre, will be headlined by a featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega.
