Ex-UFC champ Benson Henderson to fight Saad Awad at Bellator 208

Benson Henderson's quest for a Bellator MMA championship will continue on Oct. 13, when he faces Saad Awad at Bellator 208 in Uniondale, New York.

Bellator officials confirmed the 155-pound non-title fight to ESPN on Tuesday, following an initial report by MMAJunkie.com.

Bellator 208 will take place at Nassau Coliseum. A Heavyweight Grand Prix semifinal between Fedor Emelianenko and Chael Sonnen is slated to headline.

A former UFC lightweight champion, Henderson (25-8) has scuffled to a 2-3 record since signing with Bellator in 2016. Two of those losses came in title fights. He dropped a unanimous decision to welterweight Andrey Koreshkov in his promotional debut, and a split decision to lightweight Michael Chandler in late 2016.

Fighting out of Glendale, Arizona, Henderson has fought some of the best talent on Bellator's roster. His overall 2-3 record is disappointing, but he's fought three of the promotion's current or former champions -- including featherweight Patricio Freire -- and two of his losses were by split decision.

Awad (23-9), of San Bernardino, California, is on a four-fight win streak. He is coming off a first-round knockout of Ryan Couture in June.
