The UFC is close to finalizing a welterweight main event between Darren Till and Stephen Thompson for UFC Fight Night on May 27 in Liverpool, England, sources told ESPN on Friday.
The UFC had already announced that Till, who is from Liverpool, would headline the event, but had not revealed his opponent. BJPenn.com first reported Thompson's acceptance of the fight.
Till (16-0-1) looks like a potential star for the UFC, and the promotion is treating him as such. The May 27 event was originally scheduled to take place in Dublin, but the UFC moved it to England so Till could fight in his hometown.
The 25-year-old has won four fights in the UFC, including a first-round knockout over Donald Cerrone in October.
Thompson (14-2-1), of North Carolina, is coming off a decision win against Jorge Masvidal in November. Prior to that, Thompson fought for the UFC championship twice, but lost both times to current champion Tyron Woodley.
