Amanda Nunes: My goal is to set up fight with Cris 'Cyborg' Justino

BOSTON -- UFC female bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes says she is ready to accept a fight against featherweight belt holder Cris "Cyborg" Justino, and is confident the fight will be happen "if things go right."

UFC president Dana White has publicly expressed interest in that matchup as well, although Nunes (15-4) says she hasn't been offered a contract yet.

"We'll see," Nunes told ESPN. "I don't have anything yet -- no contract, nothing. We're waiting, but this is the goal. Definitely, the UFC is working on it."

Nunes, 29, only fought once in 2017, but admits she doesn't see a big fight in her own division. She has taken out several big names, including Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate and Valentina Shevchenko, and is now looking outside the division.

"I think everybody agrees with me, that I'm the best one in my division and nobody in this division is going to beat me," Nunes said. "Nobody in my division is going to make a big fight. I think this is a perfect fight to happen.

Prior to setting her sights on Justino, Nunes said she even consulted a nutritionist to look into the possibility of going down to the 125-pound flyweight limit.

Nunes was presented with a diet that could conceivably get her to the weight, but she quickly moved on from the idea.

"It was bad," Nunes said. "Sometimes, making 135 for me is a little hard. I don't have much fat left. I have to go down with muscles. Imagine if I go down to 125. The diet was, oh -- something I don't even want to talk about.

"I tried to do it for two days. After that, I can't do it any longer. Two more months? Definitely not."

Luckily, for now, it appears it won't come to that. Nunes is hopeful the bout with Justino will come together, even though Justino has resisted the idea, and believes all parties will be very happy with it.

"We're going to negotiate the contract for sure," Nunes said. "I think this is the biggest fight, and everybody has to win. I have to get mine. Cris has to get hers. UFC will be happy. This fight is going to be big."

As far as how she'll defeat Justino, who hasn't lost in nearly 13 years, Nunes admitted, "I don't even know. I haven't signed the contract yet. Soon, I will have something to say about Cris' style, when I sign the contract."
