UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will defend his title against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 on March 3 in Las Vegas. UFC officials confirmed the 145-pound title fight to ESPN on Monday, following an initial report by MMAJunkie.com. The pay-per-view event will take place inside T-Mobile Arena. The fight was supposed to headline UFC 218 in December, but Edgar was forced to withdraw due to injury. Holloway (19-3) remained on the card and defended his title for the first time, stopping Jose Aldo via TKO in the third round. Fighting out of Waianae, Hawaii, Holloway is on a 12-fight win streak. ESPN ranks the 26-year-old the No. 5 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Edgar (22-5) fought only once in 2017 due to the facial injury that forced him out of UFC 218. He recorded a second-round TKO over Yair Rodriguez in May. A New Jersey native, Edgar is 7-2 since dropping to the 145-pound division in 2013. His only two losses came by decision to Aldo.
