Featherweight champion Max Holloway to defend title against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222

MMA

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will defend his title against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 on March 3 in Las Vegas.

UFC officials confirmed the 145-pound title fight to ESPN on Monday, following an initial report by MMAJunkie.com. The pay-per-view event will take place inside T-Mobile Arena.

The fight was supposed to headline UFC 218 in December, but Edgar was forced to withdraw due to injury. Holloway (19-3) remained on the card and defended his title for the first time, stopping Jose Aldo via TKO in the third round.

Fighting out of Waianae, Hawaii, Holloway is on a 12-fight win streak. ESPN ranks the 26-year-old the No. 5 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Edgar (22-5) fought only once in 2017 due to the facial injury that forced him out of UFC 218. He recorded a second-round TKO over Yair Rodriguez in May.

A New Jersey native, Edgar is 7-2 since dropping to the 145-pound division in 2013. His only two losses came by decision to Aldo.
