Combate Americas has announced a one-night, eight-man Copa Combate tournament on Nov. 11 in Cancun, Mexico, featuring a grand prize of $100,000.
Officials confirmed the event to ESPN on Tuesday. The tournament will feature 135-pound bantamweights from the U.S., Latin American countries and Spain.
Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren noted the event will take place around the 24-year anniversary of UFC 1, the first event of the MMA promotion he co-founded back in 1993.
"When I launched the UFC 24 years ago, we changed the world," McLaren stated. "On November 11, we are going to do so again with a dynamic tournament that assembles a collection of fighters that most deserve to represent their respective countries.
"These fighters will put their national pride on the line with a substantial payoff."
The tournament field and venue is expected to be announced in the near future.
Combate Americas was founded in 2014 and features Hispanic talent. It has broadcast on UFC Fight Pass, NBC Universo and debuted on ESPN3 earlier this summer.
