Red Sox's Eduardo Nunez leaves vs. Yankees with right knee discomfort

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said third baseman Eduardo Nunez was taken out of Wednesday night's 10-1 loss to the New York Yankees for precautionary reasons after feeling some discomfort in his right knee.

Nunez reached on an infield single hit to reliever Justus Sheffield in the ninth inning, just beating out a close throw to first base. Nunez hit the bag hard trying to beat the throw. Moments later, he came out of the game.

"He felt it a little bit when he was running to first," Cora told reporters, according to Masslive.com. "So he decided to make sure we treat him. He's not going to play tomorrow, obviously. We're going to take care of him. Nothing too serious."

Cora said Nunez, who also battled a right knee injury late last season, will not play in Thursday's series finale in the Bronx.

Nunez is batting .264 with 10 home runs and 44 RBIs in 125 games this season.
