George Papagiannis waived by Trail Blazers, planning to sign in Greece

The Portland Trail Blazers have waived center George Papagiannis, a league source told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

He is planning to sign a deal in Greece.

Papagiannis, 21, was acquired by the Sacramento Kings with the 13th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft after a trade with the Phoenix Suns.

The Kings waived him in February after two years of his shuttling back and forth between the G League and the NBA to get minutes after finding it difficult to break into coach Dave Joerger's frontcourt lineup. Papagiannis went on to sign a 10-day contract with the Blazers in March, appearing in one game for them.

Prior to the 2016 draft, the 7-foot-1 Papagiannis played 21 games in the 2015-16 season in the Greek league for Panathinaikos, averaging 6.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.
