Dodgers' Justin Turner hit in hand by pitch, leaves game

PHILADELPHIA -- Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner is day-to-day with a hand contusion after being hit by a pitch during the first inning Thursday.

Team officials announced that X-rays were negative and Turner has a bruised right thumb.

Turner was hit with a 91 mph fastball from Philadelphia Phillies starter Mark Leiter Jr. on the second pitch of his at-bat. Trainers looked at Turner's fingers, but he stayed to run the bases and played one inning in the field. He was pulled by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts before the bottom of the second inning.

"Any time you get hit in the hand, it's scary,'' Turner said. "The fact that I was able to stay in [the game, initially] was a good sign. But we needed to get the X-rays anyway, just to make sure.''

Austin Barnes took Turner's spot in lineup and several players moved around to different positions.

Turner entered play Thursday batting .321 with 21 homers and 70 RBIs.
