Dave Dickerson named USC Upstate men's basketball coach

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Former Ohio State assistant Dave Dickerson has been named the new men's basketball coach at USC Upstate.

The school announced Dickerson's hire Friday. He takes over for Kyle Perry, who was let go after one season.

Dickerson spent seven seasons as associate head coach under Thad Motta with the Buckeyes, helping the team to two Big Ten Conference regular-season titles and five appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

Dickerson, a native of South Carolina, will be introduced on campus next week.

USC Upstate Chancellor Brendan Kelly says he was pleased with Dickerson's hire and that he will bring a new level of experience to the Upstate region.

Before Ohio State, Dickerson spent five seasons as head coach at Tulane. Most recently, he was employed by the NBA's Utah Jazz.
