Siena guard Nico Clareth to transfer

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Siena guard Nico Clareth, the team's leading scorer, has decided to transfer after completing the academic year.

In a statement issued Wednesday by the school, Clareth said "right now what's best for me, my family, and the team, is for me to step away."

The junior, who left the team last week to return home to Baltimore, will have one more year of eligibility.

Head coach Jimmy Patsos said at a news conference that there was no ill will.

"It's just what's best for everyone," Patsos said.

Clareth, who was named a captain before the season, was averaging 15.1 points, the only player in double figures on a 5-12 team.
