Quinnipiac has hired Villanova assistant Baker Dunleavy as its next men's basketball coach.
Dunleavy, 34, is the son of current Tulane head coach and former NBA head coach Mike Dunleavy Sr. and the brother of NBA veteran Mike Dunleavy Jr.
He has been Jay Wright's right-hand man at Villanova since 2013, serving as associate head coach. He was an assistant coach and director of basketball operations prior to being promoted to the associate job. Dunleavy also played for Wright at Villanova, appearing in 28 games over four seasons as a walk-on.
"My family and I could not be more excited to join the Quinnipiac community," Dunleavy said in a statement released Tuesday by the school. "Quinnipiac is a university that combines a first class academic environment and a highly motivated athletic program. Our staff will work to develop complete student athletes and young men who are willing to work for success on and off the court. I am eager to get started building the foundation of a program that students, fans, and alumni can be proud of."
Villanova won the national championship last season before earning the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament this season. The Wildcats were upset by No. 8 seed Wisconsin in the second round.
Dunleavy, who was mentioned with the Stony Brook and Delaware openings last spring, replaces Tom Moore, who was fired earlier this month after 10 seasons in charge of the Bobcats.
