Maurice Joseph expected to be promoted to George Washington head coach

George Washington interim coach Maurice Joseph met with university athletic director Patrick Nero Tuesday, a source told ESPN.

A multiyear contract offer to lift his interim tag and become head coach of the program is now on the table and all signs point to a deal being done soon, sources told ESPN.

Joseph took over just prior to the season after Mike Lonergan was fired following an investigation into verbal abuse within the program.

Joseph, 31, had been the director of basketball operations and an assistant under Lonergan. The native of Canada played at both Michigan State and Vermont.

George Washington is 19-14 (10-8 Atlantic 10) this season and had been on a six-game winning streak before losing to Richmond in the A-10 tournament. The Colonials accepted a bid into the College Basketball Invitational and will face Toledo in the first round Wednesday.

CBS Sports first reported that Joseph would get the head-coaching job.
