John Cooper fired as head coach of Miami (Ohio) after five seasons

Miami (Ohio) has parted ways with head men's basketball coach John Cooper, the school announced Friday.

Cooper, 47, led the RedHawks for five seasons, taking over for longtime head coach Charlie Coles, who retired after 16 seasons. Miami (Ohio) went 59-100 under Cooper, including 11-21 in 2016-17.

Before Miami (Ohio), Cooper was the head coach of Tennessee State for three seasons, leading the Tigers to a CIT appearance in his final season. He also spent time as an assistant coach at Auburn, Oregon, South Carolina and Fayetteville State.
