Dave Loos has retired after 27 seasons at Austin Peay State University, the school announced Thursday.

A news conference is scheduled for Monday for Loos to make his formal announcement.

Loos took a leave of absence in early January to continue chemotherapy for a cancerous lymph node on his colon but returned to the team after missing four games. He won his 500th game in February and is the all-time winningest coach in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Loos, 69, led the Governors to a surprise NCAA tournament in 2016, winning their final two regular season games to get into the Ohio Valley Conference tournament as a No. 8 seed. From there, they won four games in four days to reach the NCAA tournament.

Loos made four NCAA tournament appearances with the Governors while also going to two NITs, one CBI and one CIT. The Governors won the Ohio Valley regular-season title five times under Loos' watch. He is the school's all-time wins leader and also became the Ohio Valley's all-time wins leader in 2009. Despite the overall success, Austin Peay hasn't finished above .500 in league play since 2011.

Loos was also the school's athletic director for 16 seasons but relinquished that position to focus on coaching after the 2012-13 season.

Loos spent four seasons as an assistant coach to Larry Finch at Memphis before going to Austin Peay.
