ITHACA, N.Y. -- Brian Earl, who helped Princeton return to its winning ways during his nine seasons as an assistant and associate head coach, has been hired as the head coach at Cornell.

Earl, 39, becomes the 22nd head coach in Cornell history and replaces Bill Courtney, whose contract was not renewed after six seasons.

Earl has coached for the past nine seasons at his alma mater, where he was elevated to associate head coach in 2015.

Princeton increased its win total in each of his first four seasons on the sideline, from six wins in 2007-08 to 25 in 2010-11. The 2010-11 team won the program's first Ivy League title in seven seasons, ending the longest stretch without an Ivy title in program history.
