Arkansas State fined, vacates win after apparel violation

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Arkansas State has been fined $5,000 by the NCAA and been forced to vacate one men's basketball win after it was discovered a staff member provided more than $5,000 in apparel to a player.

In an infractions report posted on its website, the NCAA says the incident occurred when the former director of basketball operations allowed a player to use his ordering login -- resulting in an "excessive apparel" order of $5,165. After an unsuccessful attempt to cancel the order, the former staffer then gave the clothing to the player and didn't report the violation.

The Red Wolves were 11-20 last season and 7-13 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Former coach John Brady resigned at the end of the season, and Grant McCasland was hired last month.
