Louis Rowe returns to JMU as coach

Men's College Basketball, James Madison Dukes

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- James Madison has hired former Dukes basketball player and assistant coach Louis Rowe to lead its men's basketball program.

Athletic director Jeff Bourne announced the hiring Thursday.

Rowe, 43, has never been a head coach, but spent the past season as the top assistant at Bowling Green. He also has worked as an assistant at James Madison, Rider and Florida International since starting his coaching ascension as a graduate assistant with the Dukes in 2007.

As a player at James Madison, Rowe averaged 14.2 points as a junior and 21.7 points and 5.7 rebounds as a senior after transferring from Florida.

Bourne says Rowe "fits the JMU culture, the academic focus of this institution and our emphasis on the student-athlete experience."
