Portland State beats UC Riverside 71-64

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Derek Brown scored eight of his 12 points in the final nine minutes on Saturday night and Portland State rallied to beat UC Riverside 71-64.

Dikymbe Martin's layup with 8:24 left gave UC Riverside a 58-54 lead. The Highlanders then missed their next 11 shots from the field while Portland State took the lead with a 16-5 run including 12 straight points. Jordan Gilliam's 3-pointer with 10 seconds left broke the Highlanders' cold streak from the field but it was too late with a six-point deficit.

Jamie Orme added 11 points and Brendan Rumel scored 10 for the Vikings (1-1), who led by seven in the middle of the first half but didn't take control again until the late rally.

Gilliam and Dragan Elkaz had 11 points each for UC Riverside (0-2), which had its largest lead at 31-26 late in the first half.
