Pine Bluff wins in wild finish, 74-72 over Texas Southern

HOUSTON -- Martaveous McKnight scored five points in the final three seconds to give Arkansas-Pine Bluff a 74-72 win over Texas Southern on Monday night.

The Golden Lions (7-14, 7-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) remained alone atop the SWAC standings and ended Texas Southern's 27-game home winning streak, the second longest in the nation.

McKnight hit a step-back 3 to tie it 72-all with 2.8 seconds to go and was fouled on the shot. Texas Southern head coach Mike Davis was charged with a technical foul after the play and McKnight made 1 of 2 of the technical foul shots. He then sank his bonus foul shot to complete the 5-point possession. Lamont Walker missed a 3-point attempt for Texas Southern at the buzzer.

Charles Jackson led the Lions with 25 points. McKnight and Trent Steen added 14 apiece.

Derrick Bruce had 25 points and Donte Clark added 21 for the Tigers (4-16, 4-3), who led for almost all of the game's final eight minutes.

Texas Southern was without its leading scorer Demontrae Jefferson (23.2 points per game), who was suspended indefinitely for a violation of time rules.
