Davis, Perkins power NC Central to 80-67 win over Southern

DURHAM, N.C. -- Raasean Davis notched a double-double, Jordan Perkins came off the bench to score 17 and North Carolina Central turned back Southern 80-67 on Sunday.

Davis knocked down 8 of 10 shots to score 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Eagles (2-3), while Perkins connected on 5 of 7 from the field and 6 of 10 from the foul line.

Jamar Sandifer paced the Jaguars (0-5) with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Eddie Reese and Jared Sam scored 13 and 12, respectively. Southern has not played a home game yet.

NC Central began to pull away with 7:39 left in the first half. Alston Jones buried a 3-pointer, Davis had a pair of tip-ins, Perkins scored on a layup and Reginald Gardner Jr. hit two free throws to turn a tie at 17 into a 28-19 lead. Four Reese free throws over the final 90 seconds pulled the Jaguars within 34-27 at the half.

Southern pulled within four points early in the second half, but back-to-back layups by Davis sparked a 13-2 run and the Eagles coasted from there.

NC Central hit 26 of 49 (53 percent) from the floor and held Southern to 41.5 percent shooting (22 of 53).
