Williams leads in OT as Howard upsets NC Central 84-78

WASHINGTON -- Charles Williams scored eight points in overtime and Howard ended North Carolina Central's six-game streak with an 84-78 upset Saturday afternoon.

Williams' jumper gave Howard (4-17, 1-4 Mid-Eastern) the lead for good, 77-76, early in overtime and he followed that with a 3-pointer and another jumper in the final minute. It was the first conference win for Howard and first MEAC loss for NC Central.

RJ Cole led the Bison with 29 points, Williams added 25 and Zion Cousins had 12.

Howard led 35-31 at halftime but NC Central surged early in the second half to take a 54-49 advantage with 12:24 to play. Cole scored 14 of Howard's next 18 points and the Bison led 67-66 with 3:21 remaining. They were up by two with :13 left when NC Central's Reginald Gardner Jr. sank a jumper as time expired to force overtime.

Raasean Davis led the Eagles with 19 points and nine boards. Gardner added 17 points and Jordan Perkins 11.
