Fenner lifts Savannah State past Howard 91-90

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Alante Fenner scored a career-high 27 points, including the winning bucket, and grabbed 10 rebounds to lift Savannah State to a 91-90 win over Howard on Monday night.

Savannah State (6-13, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) led most of the game but Howard stayed close and edged into the lead with 1:57 left when Dalique Mingo dropped in a layup to make it 88-87. Mingo then hit a pair of free throws to stretch the lead to three before Savannah State's Austin Dasent also sank two free throws to again make it a one-point game.

Looking to pad the advantage, Howard's RJ Cole fired from 3-point range with 43 seconds left but missed and Fenner got the defensive rebound, then got the winning bucket with 35 seconds left. Howard missed two shots at the end.

Dexter McClanahan added 22 points for Savannah State and Dasent finished with 10.

Cole and Charles Williams had 27 points apiece for Howard, which has lost five straight, and Ibrahim Dosunmu had 10 points to go with 11 rebounds.
