Smart has 22 as North Texas beats Bethune-Cookman 90-78

DENTON, Texas -- Roosevelt Smart had 22 points to lead North Texas to a 90-78 win over Bethune-Cookman on Thursday night.

Smart hit 5 of 7 from the floor and made 11 of 13 free throw attempts. A.J. Lawson added 19 points while grabbing seven rebounds and Ryan Woolridge chipped in 18 points.

North Texas (2-1) hit 50 percent (30-60) from the floor while holding the Wildcats to 28-of-73 (38 percent) shooting. Bethune-Cookman knocked down two more 3-pointers but the Mean Green made 25 of 37 free throws while the Wildcats made 15 of 23.

Bethune-Cookman took an early lead but the Mean Green quickly recovered to go up 20-12 midway of the first half to take a 42-33 lead into the break. North Texas stretched the advantage to 61-36. Bethune-Cookman closed to 82-74 with 1:36 left but Smart responded with eight straight points.

Brandon Tabb had 20 points to lead the Wildcats (1-2).
