UAB cruises past Mississippi Valley State 74-57

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Nick Norton scored all 14 of his points and Nate Darling 11 of his 12 in the first half when UAB took off to a 17-point lead on its way to a 74-57 victory over winless Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.

Norton had four of the Blazers' 10 3-pointers with UAB (9-4) shooting 53 percent overall. Jalen Perry led the Blazers with 15 points and Lewis Sullivan 10 points with both grabbing seven rebounds.

UAB's leading scorer and rebounder Chris Cokley sat out as a precaution to rest a minor ankle injury.

Zack Bryant hit a 3-pointer to give UAB the lead for good with 12 minutes left in the first half and Norton followed with a trio of 3-pointers as the Blazers outscored the Delta Devils 26-4 over an 11-minute span, making 9 of 14 shots over while MVSU was 1 of 17.

The Blazers led by 17 at halftime and MVSU got only within nine once with seven minutes to go.

Dante Scott scored 17 and Gemaal Davis 10 for MVSU (0-13).

UAB (9-4) has won six of its last seven games while MVSU (0-13) has lost 14 straight dating to last season. The Delta Devils have played 12 road games.
