Levin, Yussuf power Long Beach State past Cal Poly 73-54

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Gabe Levin and Temidayo Yussuf posted double-doubles and Long Beach State pulled away in the second half to defeat Cal Poly 73-54 on Saturday night.

Levin, fresh off a school record-tying 45 points in a double overtime loss to UC Davis, finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds for the 49ers (13-14, 7-4 Big West Conference). Yussuf added 17 points and 11 boards as both players accomplished the feat for a third time this season. It was the 999th victory all-time for Long Beach State, which snapped a two-game skid on its home floor and beat the Mustangs (8-17, 3-8) for a second time this season.

Long Beach State led 24-20 at halftime and began to take charge after Luke Meikle's jumper pulled Cal Poly within 30-28 with 4 1/2 minutes gone in the second half. Levin scored six in an 11-2 spurt to push the 49ers' lead to 41-30 with 12:35 remaining. The Mustangs trailed by at least eight points the rest of the way as Long Beach State buried 18 of 20 free throws after intermission.

Miekle paced Cal Poly with 15 points, while Iziah James scored 11. The Mustangs shot just 30 percent from the floor and 18.5 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.
