Anderson with 28, Navy holds on to beat Lafayette 71-69

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Shawn Anderson scored 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Navy held on to beat Lafayette 71-69 on Wednesday night.

Anderson was 11 of 14 from the field for the Midshipmen (18-10, 9-6 Patriot League), who have won three straight.

Navy trailed by two at the break but a 10-3 run midway through the second half -- including a 3-pointer by Anderson -- gave the Midshipmen a 53-49 lead with 7:26 to play. Two free throws by Mo Lewis stretched it to 68-60 with just under a minute left but Alex Petrie scored nine Lafayette points after that while Navy was 4 of 7 from the foul line. A steal by Hasan Abdullah with a second to go prevented Lafayette from getting off a final shot.

Petrie scored 21 points to lead the Leopards (8-18, 6-9). Justin Jaworski added 15 points and four rebounds.
