Swopshire leads Colgate past Holy Cross 79-74

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Jordan Swopshire scored a season-high 22 points and Will Rayman tallied 15 points and nine rebounds to help Colgate hold off Holy Cross 79-74 in a Patriot League opener on Friday.

Jordan Burns finished with 12 points and five assists for the Raiders (6-6), who picked up their first road win of the season in seven tries. Colgate earned its third straight win and beat the Crusaders (3-9) on the road for the first time since 2011.

Jehyve Floyd scored 15 on 7-of-11 shooting for Holy Cross, which is 1-9 in its last 10 games. Austin Butler added 14 points and Karl Charles and reserve Jacob Grandison scored 11 and 10, respectively.

The game was tied at 36 at halftime and remained a two-possession game until Swopshire buried a 3 to give the Raiders a 67-60 lead with 4:30 left to play. Burns hit a 3 with 3:01 left to stretch the lead to nine. Butler knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to pull the Crusaders within 77-74 with 21 seconds remaining, but Swopshire got free for a dunk to seal it.
