Wyoming holds off Utah State in 85-77 win

LOGAN, Utah -- Alan Herndon scored 21 points, Hayden Dalton added 20 more and Wyoming held off a Utah State rally Saturday night for an 85-77 win.

Wyoming (12-7, 3-3 Mountain West Conference) led by as much as 22 points in the first half but Utah State steadily chipped away at the deficit after the break, getting a pair of free throws from Koby McEwen to go on top 62-61 and then 64-63 off 2 for 2 from the line by Dwayne Brown Jr. with 5:50 to play.

Justin James then dropped in a layup with 5:09 left to put Wyoming on top for good, and Herndon padded it with two straight buckets. Utah State got no closer than three the rest of the way.

Sam Merrill led Utah State (10-11, 3-5) with 19 points and McEwen went 10 for 10 from the free-throw line and finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
