Oni scores 16 points, leads Yale past Alcorn State 87-73

LORMAN, Miss. -- Miye Oni scored 16 points and Yale jumped ahead early and cruised to an 87-73 victory over Alcorn State on Wednesday.

Oni was 5 of 11 from the field and made three 3-pointers. Paul Atkinson added 13 points for Yale (3-3). Blake Reynolds and Azar Swain each chipped in 11 points.

Reginal Johnson and Dante Sterling scored 15 points apiece to lead Alcorn State (0-6). Johnson was 6 of 18 from the floor but 0-of-11 shooting from 3-point range. Sterling made 4 of 8 field goals, including three 3-pointers.

Yale had a double-digit lead midway through the first half and built a 37-24 halftime lead. The Braves opened the second half on a 17-7 run to pull to 44-41. Yale answered with a 12-3 surge, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers by Eric Monroe and Noah Yates, and the Bulldogs had a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
