Waterman, Turner lead Manhattan over Monmouth 93-76

NEW YORK -- Zane Waterman tossed in 28 points, Zavier Turner scored 25 and Pauly Paulicap chipped in with a double-double to propel Manhattan to a 93-76 victory over Monmouth on Saturday night.

Waterman hit four 3-pointers and 10 of 13 free throws in his best scoring effort of the season for the Jaspers (12-14, 7-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Turner hit 4 of 6 from 3-point range and 13 of 14 free throws on his way to a season-high point total. He added five assists. Paulicap had 10 points and matched his career high with 13 rebounds for his second career double-double.

Deion Hammond topped the Hawks (8-17, 4-9) with 19 points, while Ray Salnave scored 16 with a career-best five steals.

Manhattan worked its way to a 40-36 halftime lead, but Monmouth scored the first five points of the second half on a Diago Quinn 3-point play and a Salnave layup. Hammond buried three straight go-ahead 3-pointers -- the last one with 10 minutes to play gave the Hawks a 56-55 lead -- but Thomas Capuano scored four in a 9-0 run to put the Jaspers on top 64-56. Turner scored 16 straight points for Manhattan on four 3s and four free throws to put the game out of reach with a little over four minutes remaining.
