Canisius outlasts Rider 77-76 in MAAC opener

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Jermaine Crumpton tossed in 20 points and Jonathan Sanks came off the bench to score 12, including 1 of 2 free throws with 39 seconds left, to lift Canisius to a 77-76 victory over Rider on Friday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener.

Rider led 74-73 after Frederick Scott hit 1 of 2 free throws with 1:34 remaining in the game. But Crumpton scored on a scoop shot, was fouled and hit the free throw to put the Golden Griffins up 76-74. Demencio Vaughn nailed a pair of free throws with 1:06 left to knot the score at 76. Sanks hit the front end of a one-and-one for the winner. Anthony Durham missed a 15-footer at the buzzer for the Broncs.

Takal Molson finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Isaiah Reese scored 15 with eight assists for the Golden Griffins (7-7), who picked up their third straight win.

Scott came off the bench to score 19, including 17 in the second half, with 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season for the Broncs (7-6). Tyere Marshall also added his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Vaughn had 16 points and Stevie Jordan added 10 points and seven assists.
