Kelly's scoop layup lifts Quinnipiac over Columbia 89-87

NEW YORK -- Rich Kelly scored the go-ahead basket on a scoop layup with 4.8 seconds left, Mike Smith's 3-point attempt missed off the back of the rim at the buzzer and Quinnipiac beat Columbia 89-87 on Monday night.

Kelly scored the Bobcats' final eight points and set career highs with 22 points and 10 assists. He made a 3-pointer to pull Quinnipiac (3-6) within 85-84 with 3:50 left and another to tie it at 87 at 1:27.

Smith had 20 points and seven assists. The Lions (1-7) had the largest lead of the second half after a 7-0 run made it 79-74 but missed their last four shots and committed a turnover to go scoreless during the final 3:18.

Jacob Rigoni added 20 points, Andrew Robinson scored 14, and Cameron Young and Chaise Daniels had 12 points each for Quinnipiac.

Lukas Meisner had 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists for Columbia. Quinton Adlesh scored 16, Nate Hickman had 14, Patrick Tape and Jaron Faulds added 12 each.
