Brantley helps Charleston pull away from Towson 73-62

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Jarrell Brantley had 14 of his 24 points in the second half and Charleston pulled away to beat Towson 73-62 in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams on Saturday.

Brantley had 11 of his points after the nine-minute mark of the second half, including six during an 8-0 run that gave the Cougars (10-3) a 64-48 lead with 3:46 to go.

Charleston led 36-34 at halftime and extended the lead to 52-40 in the first 10 1/2 minutes of the second half. Towson (10-4) was as close as 56-48 on Brian Starr's 3-pointer with 5:30 left before the Cougars pulled away for good.

Brantley finished 4 of 6 from 3-point range, Joe Chealey added 21 points and Grant Riller scored 16 for Charleston, which remained undefeated at home on the season.

Eddie Keith II had a career-high 20 points and Zane Martin added 14 for the Tigers.
