Miller sinks winning FTs, Troy beats Georgia St 68-66

TROY, Ala. -- B.J. Miller was fouled on a fast-break and hit both ends of a 1-and-1 to break a tie and Troy completed a 19-point second-half comeback to defeat Georgia State 68-66 on Sunday.

Miller had scored just three points for Troy (7-8, 1-1 Sun Belt Conference) when he was fouled while driving to the hoop with 4.7 seconds on the clock. After the free throws and a timeout, Malik Benlevi threw an inbounds pass to half court but a long 3-pointer caromed off the back of the rim as the final horn sounded.

Georgia State (9-6, 0-2) built a 46-27 lead on a Devin Mitchell 3-pointer with 16:17 remaining. Troy closed within 56-51 on a Juan Davis Jr., 3-pointer with 7:37 to play. The Davis 3 was the start of a 13-0 run that put the Trojans ahead 61-56 with 4:12 left.

The teams trade the lead several times with the Panthers going up 66-64 with a minute left. Jordan Varnado tied it with 38 seconds to go and a missed 3-pointer set up Miller's heroics.

Varnado led with 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting. Alex Hicks finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

D'Marcus Simonds led the Panthers with 17 points and Jeff Thomas added 15.
