Mooney with 28 points leads South Dakota past Omaha 79-64

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Matt Mooney scored 28 points and South Dakota beat Omaha 79-64 on Saturday afternoon.

The Coyotes (24-6, 11-2 Summit League) are on a six-game streak and are a half game behind leader South Dakota State (23-6, 11-1) in the conference standings. The two teams meet on Thursday to decide the conference championship and the No. 1 seed at the upcoming Summit tournament.

Trey Burch-Manning added 15 points and eight rebounds for South Dakota and Nick Fuller had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

South Dakota shot 47 percent from the field compared to 35 percent for Omaha and had a 44-34 rebounding advantage.

A tip-in by Tyler Hagedorn capped an 18-8 start for the Coyotes and Mooney and Brandon Armstrong hit back-to-back 3-pointers late to help extend the lead to 39-24 at halftime.

South Dakota stretched it to 62-38 in the second half and cruised to the win.

Mitchell Hahn scored 16 points with seven rebounds for the Mavericks (9-19, 4-8). Daniel Norl added 15 points.
