Rutledge hits record 11 3s, Nicholls beats McNeese 96-79

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Lafayette Rutledge broke a school record with 11 3-pointers and scored a career-high 34 points and Nicholls downed McNeese 96-79 on Wednesday.

Rutledge shot exclusively behind the 3-point arc and made 11 of 19. Roddy Peters scored 24 points with 10 assists

Tevon Saddler also had a double-double for Nicholls (19-9, 13-2 Southland Conference) with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Kimani Jackson scored 10 points.

Jackson's first-half dunk sparked a 12-4 run and Nicholls led 28-18 with 9:03 left before halftime. Jackson responded with a layup, Rutledge buried a 3 and that started a run of 14-7 that McNeese couldn't overcome. Kevin Johnson's 3 made it 48-30 and Nicholls went to halftime with a 53-36 lead and were never challenged.

The Cowboys made 14 of 34 from 3-point range and distributed 22 assists on 34-made shot attempts.

Stephen Ugochukwu led the Cowboys (9-16, 6-9) with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Jarren Greenwood scored 13, Quatarrius Wilson, 12 and Kalob Ledoux 11.
