Garth scores 22, Lamar beats Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 79-76

BEAUMONT, Texas -- Nick Garth scored 22 points and Colton Weisbrod had 14 points and eight rebounds to help Lamar beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 79-76 on Saturday.

Joey Frenchwood had 12 points and a season-high tying nine assists for Lamar (17-11, 9-6 Southland Conference). The Cardinals have won four of their last five games.

Frenchwood hit a 3 to give Lamar its first lead during a 16-6 run that made it 49-46 when Weisbrod made a layup with about 13 minutes to play. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Joseph Kilgore converted a 3-point play to make it 51-all, but Garth answered with a 3-pointer that sparked a 10-3 spurt and the Cardinals led the rest of the way. Myles Smith made a jumper to trim the Islanders' deficit to 65-63, but Lamar made 6 of 8 from the field in the last five-plus minutes to seal it.

Kareem South led Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (8-16, 5-9 Southland Conference) with a career-high 26 points. Smith, a freshman, finished with a season-high 19 points and Kilgore scored 18.
