South scores 21, Texas A&M-CC downs SE Louisiana 67-54

HAMMOND, La. -- Kareem South scored 21 points with four 3-pointers, Sean Rhea added 11 points, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beat Southeastern Louisiana 67-54 on Wednesday night to win its third straight.

Joseph Kilgore scored 10 points with three assists for the Islanders (7-12, 4-5 Southland Conference), who made all 14 of their free throws and held the Lions to 34.5 percent shooting from the floor.

Joshua Filmore's 3 put the Lions up 29-28 early in the second half, but Rhea's dunk sparked a 10-3 run and the Islanders led 53-45 on South's 3 with 3:50 left. Rhea scored back-to-back jumpers and the Islanders sealed it with 10 free throws in final 2:54.

The Islanders opened with three straight 3s for the lead, but trailed 22-20 on Filmore's 3 before rallying to a 26-24 halftime lead on Myles Smith's 3-point play.

Eddy Polanco scored 11 points, James Currington added 10, and Marlain Veal had five assists for the Lions (13-10, 7-3), who entered tied for second place with Nicholls.
