SE Louisiana withstands late rally to beat Nicholls 67-63

THIBODAUX, La. -- Moses Greenwood made a layup and followed with a dunk in the final minutes to help Southeastern Louisiana withstand a late rally to upset Nicholls 67-63 on Saturday night.

With the loss, Nicholls allowed New Orleans to move into first place in the Southland Conference. The teams will meet in New Orleans next Saturday. Southeastern Louisiana (13-9, 7-2) and Nicholls (13-9, 7-2) are tied for second place.

Trailing 65-62 with four seconds remaining Kevin Johnson had a chance to send the game into overtime when he was fouled as he missed a 3-point attempt. He made the first free throw, but missed the second and purposely missed the third. Southeastern's Marlain Veal was fouled as he came away with the rebound. He made two free throws for the final score.

Greenwood finished with 20 points and Veal added 15 with five assists and four steals. Eddy Polanco chipped in 11 with six rebounds.

Roddy Peters had 22 points for Nicholls, which saw its five-game win streak halted.
