SE Louisiana distances itself from Houston Baptist 85-69

HAMMOND, La. -- Jordan Capps scored a career-high 31 point on 12-of-18 shooting and Southeastern Louisiana pulled away from Houston Baptist 85-69 on Wednesday night.

Southeastern Louisiana (11-8, 5-1 Southland Conference) led 39-38 at halftime and stretched it to 56-45 on Marlain Veal's jumper with 13:04 left. Jalon Gates made a 3-pointer and Tim Myles' jumper reduced Houston Baptist's deficit to six (56-50), but Joshua Filmore sandwiched a pair of 3s between Ian DuBose's 3-point play and Keith Charleston's jumper made it 64-53.

The Huskies (4-15, 0-6) drew within 67-61 on David Caraher's 3, but Houston Baptist went scoreless in the next 4 1/2 minutes while Capps scored a layup and back-to-back dunks and Filmore added a 3 and free throw for a 16-point lead with 5:12 left.

Capps scored the last 10 points of the first half for the Lions to put them up before the break. Filmore scored 22 points and was 7-of-11 shooting from 3-point range.

DuBose lead the Huskies with 17 points, Gates and Braxton Bonds each scored 13 and Caraher had 10.
