Marshall downs Chattanooga behind Burks' 23 points

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- C.J. Burks scored 23 points on 10-of-20 shooting, Jon Elmore added 22 points, and Marshall beat former Southern Conference rival Chattanooga 70-66 on Tuesday night for the first time since departing the league in 1997.

Chattanooga took a 62-60 lead on Makale Foreman's 3-pointer with 2:45 to play. Burks' 3-point play put Marshall up 63-62, but Makinde London hit two free throws to make it a one-point game. Marshall led for good after on Burks' back-to-back layups, and Elmore and Jannson Williams sealed it with three free throws down the stretch.

Ajdin Penava added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Thundering Herd (6-3), who shot just 1 of 16 from 3-point range.

London set career highs with 25 points and 12 rebounds, Nat Dixon added 13 points and Foreman had 10 for the Mocs (4-5).
