Drumwright's 21 leads Jacksonville State past Samford 89-58

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- Malcolm Drumwright scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting with five 3-pointers and Jacksonville State rolled to an 89-58 win over Samford on Sunday.

Ashton Spears and Marlon Hunter added 14 points apiece for the Gamecocks (6-2), who made 11 of 21 from distance and shot 63 percent (33 of 53) overall. Norbertas Giga had 12 points and nine rebounds and Jason Burnell had 10 points.

Back-to-back baskets by Triston Chambers had the Bulldogs (2-6) on top 17-15 midway through the first half before the Gamecocks reeled off 15 straight points, starting with a Drumwright 3-pointer. Late in the half Drumwright added a pair of 3s in a 12-3 run and Jacksonville State led 49-29 at the half as Giga knocked down a 3 at the buzzer.

Drumwright was 4 for 4 behind the arc, where the Gamecocks were 7 of 12 en route to 62 percent shooting on the half. Samford made 18 turnovers that were turned into 27 points.

Demetrius Denzel-Dyson had 18 points for Samford, which finished at 33 percent shooting and 18 turnovers.
