UNC Greensboro downs Liberty 76-75 in 3OT

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Francis Alonso scored a career-high 36 points and hit the game-winner with 2.4 seconds left in the third overtime as UNC Greensboro beat Liberty 76-75 on Saturday.

Alonso let the ball roll to midcourt, crossed over his defender to get into the lane and hit a fall-away shot.

Jordy Kuiper's two free throws put the Spartans up 72-70 in the third overtime. Caleb Homesley made 1 of 2 from the line at the other end and the Flames led 75-74 on Ryan Kemrite's free throw with nine seconds left.

Alonso's third 3 of the second overtime tied it at 70, and his 3 tied it a 52 at the end of regulation.

Alonso made 10 of 31 field goals and 7 of 19 3-pointers and the Spartans (5-3) scored 25 points off 21 Liberty turnovers. James Dickey grabbed 14 rebounds.

Dickey hit two from the line for a 58-56 Spartans lead in the first overtime and Scottie James's two foul shots tied it with two seconds left.

James scored 19 points with 15 rebounds for his third straight double-double for Liberty (5-3). Lovell Cabbil had 16 points and GeorgiePacheco-Ortiz 13.
