Payne, Williams combine for 11 3-pointers in ETSU win

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Devontavius Payne scored a career-high 28 points off the bench on 10-of-19 shooting with 6-14 3-pointers and sparked a game-changing run to lead East Tennessee State over Savannah State 76-61 on Monday for the Buccaneers' first win of the season.

Jason Williams hit a career-high five 3-pointers, David Burrell grabbed 12 rebounds and Desonta Bradford had 10 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for ETSU.

Payne's layup tied it at 27 in the first half after five lead changes and four ties and the Buccaneers (1-1) pulled away on a 14-2 run in which Payne dunked and hit a 3 to lead 39-31 at halftime.

Payne hit another 3, dunked and made a layup as ETSU scored 11 unanswered points for a 19-point lead to open the second half and was never threatened.

Austin Dasent scored 12 points and Dexter McClanahan had 10 and scored his 600th career point for Savannah State (0-2).
