W2W4: Who will make a move on Moving Day?

Golf, PGA Tour

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Although a handful of golfers have to finish up their second rounds on Saturday morning at Quail Hollow, which pros will kick it up a notch in Round 3? Our experts share their thoughts about Moving Day at the 99th PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy: Because now that it doesn't matter and he can't win, the "pressure" is completely off and he can freewheel it. This has happened before, and this will be another backdoor top-5 for Rory. -- Michael Collins

Rickie Fowler: My pick to win needs a strong Saturday to give himself a chance to capture his first major championship, and he's perfectly positioned to do so. Fowler will begin the third round several groups in front of the leaders, still close enough to be a factor if he can shoot a round in the 60s. He is certainly capable -- he's got to be kicking himself for that first-round triple-bogey -- and has won on this course. Now comes another opportunity. -- Bob Harig

Justin Thomas: He's done it before -- making a move on Moving Day at a major -- when he shot a then-record-tying 63 in Round 3 at the U.S. Open in June. Thomas, 24, is on most short lists of young players who could win their first major in the near future, and after a 66 in Round 2, don't be surprised if he plays his way into one of the final pairings on Sunday. -- Kevin Maguire

I picked Rory McIlroy to win this week and, well, you've seen how that turned out. So I'm done going chalk. My pick to make a big move on Moving Day is the unheralded Sung Kang. Of the 15 players under par who have completed the second round, Kang is the only one with two rounds in the 70s. What does that mean? He's in contention without having played his best golf yet. Kang certainly isn't as big a name as others on the leaderboard, but he does own three results of sixth or better. Again, he isn't the popular pick, but neither was a countryman whose last name rhymes with his (Y.E. Yang) when Yang took down Tiger Woods at this event in 2009. -- Jason Sobel
