West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere sidelined after undergoing ankle injury

West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere faces a short period on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury, the club has confirmed.

Wilshere, who moved to the London Stadium for Arsenal in the summer, has made four appearances so far this season. He was substituted on 64 minutes during the defeat to Wolves on Sept. 1 and missed the victory over Everton on Sunday.

"Jack underwent successful surgery in London on Monday morning for a minor ongoing ankle issue," West Ham's head of medical Richard Collinge said. "The surgeon was happy with the procedure and all went as planned.

"We envisage he will only need a relatively short period of rest and will then start his rehabilitation. Jack is focused and determined to get back training and playing as soon as possible."

West Ham welcome Chelsea to the London Stadium on Sunday as they look to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League.
