Ex-Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla earns contract at Villarreal - sources

Santi Cazorla has been given a one-year contract by Villarreal, sources close to the La Liga side have told ESPN FC.

Cazorla, who made 180 appearances for Arsenal in six seasons, left the Gunners when his contract expired in May and joined Villarreal -- where he had spent two previous spells -- on trial.

The 33-year-old midfielder has agreed a one-year deal with an option to extend it for a further season.

Villarreal will make an official the announcement at what they called a "stellar" presentation at their Ceramica Stadium on Thursday.

Last month, former Spain international Cazorla played his first game in 21 months since sustaining an Achilles tendon injury.

Villarreal coach Javi Calleja, reported to have been impressed by the dedication shown by Cazorla, said last month: "If everything goes according to plan and there are good vibes, Santi will be a luxury reinforcement for us."
