Uruguay's Luis Suarez: Goal celebration vs. Saudi Arabia marks wife's pregnancy

Luis Suarez has said he put the ball under his shirt during his goal celebration in Uruguay's 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to mark his wife's pregnancy with their third child.

Suarez scored the only goal after 23 minutes of his 100th international appearance to clinch qualification for the round-of-16 with a game to spare.

The Barcelona star performed his usual celebration of kissing three fingers to represent his wife and two children, but then put the ball under his shirt.

He posted three photographs on Twitter, the first showing him kissing his jersey with the ball underneath it, another of him celebrating his goal with teammates and the other one showing his pregnant wife, Sofia, in the stands at the Rostov Arena.

He wrote: "HAPPY to be part of Uruguay's history accomplishing 100 games!!!!! HAPPY to achieve the final 16 stage again and even more HAPPY to share that we'll have our third child. THANK YOU ALL for the support, specially to my loved ones."

Suarez, who said after the game that his wife was expecting a boy, made it 52 goals for his country since his debut on February 2007.

"I feel privileged," he told reporters. "I knew this was my 100th game, but on the pitch, you have to be concentrated.

"I'm more than proud that Uruguay has for the three consecutive World Cups reached the last 16. That's spectacular and we have to enjoy this beautiful moment."

Suarez, who spurned opportunities in Uruguay's 1-0 triumph over Egypt in their opening game, added: "After the missed chances, I had to be strong. I didn't feel comfortable and I knew I had to change the chip and help the team in any way possible."

Uruguay take on Russia on Monday in their last group game, with top position at stake.

"Every game is difficult, and against Russia it's no exception," Suarez said. "Obviously there are things that we must improve on because we are not playing the way we would like to but in a World Cup, but what matters are the results.

"There's no game where we can be relaxed or think about the next game. There are no easy rivals."
